Day 01

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

1,640m to 2,835m 11 km 5 - 7 Hours

After a scenic drive from Arusha and finalizing park entry permits at the gate, your expedition begins on a muddy, twisting path through Kilimanjaro’s spectacular montane rainforest. The canopy overhead is alive with exotic bird calls and curious blue monkeys. Take your time navigating the damp, root-lined paths as you steadily gain altitude. Your porter crew speeds ahead to erect your private tented camp at the forest's edge just in time for a hot dinner and a peaceful night's sleep at Machame Camp.

Day 02

Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp

2,835m to 3,850m 5 km 4 - 6 Hours

Leave the rainforest zone behind as you ascend a steep, rocky ridge into the low-alpine moorland ecosystem. The path crosses open heath fields populated by otherworldly giant lobelias and groundsels. After conquering a steep volcanic wall, the trail levels out across the expansive Shira Plateau—one of the highest volcanic cradles on Earth. From camp, look back to enjoy panoramic views of the clouds blanketing the savannah below and the rugged western breach wall of Kibo.

Day 03

Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

3,850m to 4,630m to 3,950m 10 km 6 - 8 Hours

A classic, critical "Climb High, Sleep Low" acclimatization day. You trek due east across the high desert plateau before ascending a steep ridge to the stark, volcanic monolith of Lava Tower (4,630m). Here, you will stop for a hot lunch while your body adapts to the sudden high altitude. Afterward, drop down into the spectacular Great Barranco Valley. Camp is nestled below the sheer glaciers of Kibo, surrounded by ancient senecio plants, offering one of the most iconic views on the mountain.

Day 04

Barranco Camp to Karanga to Barafu Camp

3,950m to 4,673m 9 km 7 - 9 Hours

The morning begins with an exciting, hands-on scramble up the imposing Great Barranco Wall—often called the "Breakfast Wall." No technical climbing gear is needed, but you will use your hands to scale the safe, rocky steps. Once at the top, admire the stunning views of Kibo's southern glaciers. Cross the rolling valleys of Karanga for a quick lunch, then complete a final steep climb through the alpine desert to the windy ridge of Barafu Camp. Early dinner and immediate rest follow, preparing for midnight's summit push.

Day 05

Summit Push: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak down to Mweka Camp

4,673m to 5,895m down to 3,100m 17 km 11 - 15 Hours

Your guides wake you at midnight with hot tea. Brace yourself against the freezing wind as you ascend the steep, heavy scree switchbacks between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers toward Stella Point (5,756m). This is the toughest stretch of the trek. From Stella Point, complete a final, snow-lined hour-long march to Uhuru Peak—the true Roof of Africa at 5,895 meters. Celebrate a magical sunrise over the glaciers before making a long, steady descent back down to Barafu for lunch, finally dropping into Mweka Camp for a well-earned sleep.

Day 06

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

3,100m to 1,640m 10 km 3 - 4 Hours

Wake up to a lively celebration song and dance from your dedicated porters, chefs, and guides. After breakfast, enjoy a pleasant descent through the warm, oxygen-rich rainforest paths down to Mweka Gate. At the gate, sign out and receive your official National Park certificates—a gold diploma for reaching Uhuru Peak or a green one for Stella Point. Your private vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Arusha for a long hot shower and celebration dinner.
