Day 01

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

2,100m to 2,650m 7 km 3 - 4 Hours

Your journey kicks off with a drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate for administrative check-in. From there, another short drive leads to the uncrowded Lemosho trail drop-off point. You plunge directly into an isolated, rich rainforest corridor that remains far quieter than the main southern gates. The underfoot paths wind around ancient, canopy-dense trees covered in hanging mosses. This wild zone offers premium viewings of black-and-white colobus monkeys before you walk into Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for dinner.

Day 02

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

2,650m to 3,610m 8 km 5 - 7 Hours

The trail climbs steadily out of the dense forest canopy, transitioning quickly through a spectacular zone of giant heather and low alpine shrubs. You scale several steep ridges before crossing the western rim of the massive Shira Plateau. The path levels out across a striking moorland landscape that feels completely vast and untouched. Your campsite at Shira 1 sits on the edge of this high caldera, providing unmatched views of Kibo's peak glowing in the sunset far ahead.

Day 03

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

3,610m to 3,850m 10 km 4 - 5 Hours

A gentle, highly enjoyable day of high-altitude exploration. You trek eastward across the floor of the Shira Caldera, navigating low rock formations and crossing cold glacial streams. This easy incline provides an invaluable, stress-free buffer for your respiratory system to adapt to the thin alpine air. You cross paths with the main Machame route trail before settling down at Shira 2 Camp, located directly beneath Kibo's stunning western glaciers.

Day 04

Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

3,850m to 4,630m to 3,950m 7 km 6 - 8 Hours

Your path turns sharply up toward the high alpine desert zone. You climb a rocky ridge to reach Lava Tower—a massive volcanic plug rising at 4,630 meters. You will stop at this towering vantage point for a hot lunch, allowing your body to adapt safely to the elevated altitude. Afterward, descend through a valley of ancient giant senecios into the deep Barranco Valley, dropping lower to sleep comfortably and protect your vital energy reserves.

Day 05

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

3,950m to 3,995m 5 km 4 - 5 Hours

Tackle the iconic Great Barranco Wall right after breakfast. Our experienced mountain guides will escort you safely up the steep rocky path, using hands-on stepping maneuvers. The top of the wall delivers an incredible panoramic vantage point over Kibo's frozen southern glaciers. From there, cross a succession of beautiful volcanic ridges down into Karanga Camp for a hot lunch and a restful afternoon, bypassing any premature physical exhaustion.

Day 06

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

3,995m to 4,673m 4 km 3 - 4 Hours

A short, focused march across a completely desolate alpine desert plain. The trail slopes up steadily toward the steep, rocky ridge of Barafu Camp. The air is cold and thin, with sub-zero mountain winds sweeping across the camp. You will check in by early afternoon, giving you plenty of time to prepare your warmest summit clothing layers, eat an early dinner, and sleep deeply before the midnight wakeup call.

Day 07

Summit Push: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak down to Mweka Camp

4,673m to 5,895m down to 3,100m 17 km 11 - 15 Hours

Wake up at midnight for hot tea and snacks. You step into the frozen dark, scaling the heavy volcanic scree slopes between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers toward Stella Point (5,756m). This is the absolute physical peak of the expedition. From Stella, complete a final snow-lined hour-long trek to Uhuru Peak—the true Roof of Africa at 5,895 meters. Celebrate a magical sunrise over the glaciers before executing a steady descent back down to Barafu for lunch, finally dropping into Mweka Camp for a deeply satisfying sleep.

Day 08

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

3,100m to 1,640m 10 km 3 - 4 Hours

Awake to a traditional mountain song celebration from your guiding crew, porters, and chefs. After breakfast, you make a comfortable descent through the warm, oxygen-rich rainforest zone back down to Mweka Gate. Check out officially and receive your green diploma for Stella Point or your gold certificate for reaching Uhuru Peak's true summit. Your private vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Arusha for a long hot shower and celebration dinner.
