9 Days Northern Crcuit Route Climbing

Climb Overview

The Northern Circuit Route is renowned for its length and scenic diversity, offering trekkers a chance to experience Kilimanjaro's varying ecosystems while enjoying relatively low crowds. This route is considered one of the most scenic and less traveled routes on the mountain, providing ample time for acclimatization.

Duration: The Northern Circuit Route typically takes around 9 to 10 days to complete, offering a more gradual ascent profile and maximizing acclimatization.

Difficulty: While the Northern Circuit Route is not technically challenging, its length and altitude require good physical fitness and mental preparation. However, the gradual ascent profile helps reduce the risk of altitude-related illnesses.

Scenery: The route showcases Kilimanjaro's diverse landscapes, including lush rainforests, expansive moorlands, alpine deserts, and stunning vistas of glaciers and volcanic formations.

Highlights:

  • Londorossi Gate: The starting point for the Northern Circuit Route, located on the western side of Kilimanjaro.
  • Shira Plateau: Trekking across the vast Shira Plateau, trekkers are treated to panoramic views of Kilimanjaro's western slopes.
  • Mawenzi Tarn Camp: Nestled beneath the jagged peaks of Mawenzi, this campsite offers stunning views and a tranquil setting.
  • Uhuru Peak: The ultimate goal of the trek, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, Uhuru Peak is the highest point on Kilimanjaro and in Africa.
  • Crater Camp: Located near the summit, Crater Camp provides a unique overnight experience within Kilimanjaro's crater, with views of the ash pit and glaciers.

Acclimatization: The Northern Circuit Route allows for excellent acclimatization due to its gradual ascent profile and longer duration. Trekkers have a higher chance of reaching the summit successfully and enjoying the journey with fewer altitude-related issues.

Crowds: Compared to other popular routes like the Machame or Marangu routes, the Northern Circuit Route sees fewer trekkers, offering a more secluded and peaceful experience on the mountain.
